Dear Matisyahu and Madonna, See You Guys Soon, Kay.
I am leaving the Caribbean pretty soon. Even though that is really boring news, I'll be okay because I will see you at Coachella. Sweet!
I Will Totally Not Give You Salmonella
Today, I went to a brunch with the twelve Peace Corps volunteers in Grenada and a med student. It was pretty hilarious as Kristin and I brought deviled eggs, which is a funny thing to do considering the hour long bus ride through the steaming hot jungle. The eggs turned out to be not salmonella-y at all and we were met with a thermos full of Mimosa, totally melted Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Eggs and tons of other makeshift American brunch delights. We played some Cranium and then it started raining. Clearly, it was time to hit the beach. So, we divided into smaller groups and a few hours later all met up at the beach. As it was raining and cloudy, there was to be no sun-bathing. Obviously, time for highly competitive games that could keep everyone fully submerged in the Caribbean Sea. We played Marco Polo and freeze tag through the clouds, in the rain, in the water with unlimited space, no pesky parameters like the sides of the pool or dock or swimming area. Most people probably don't know this about me, but I am at my absolute best during games of highly competitive Sharks and Minnows. Add the additional challenges of playing in the saltwater sea and (kapow!) my dream day. And to end it all on a high note . . . GUAVA SMOOTHIES! Smoothie-aholics holla and meet your new best friend . . . Guava.

Swarovski Crystal Palace
Well, truly, no one can deny that 2006 is indeed the Year of the Chandelier. In fact, I don't know why I hadn't thought to document 2006's chandelier obsession before. Please, forgive me, it's time. So I was checking out one of my favorite blogs we-make-money-not-art and there it was, more proof of the Year of the Chandelier. The Swarovski Crystal Palace at Salone del Mobile 2006 is on point. Though Swavorski has been asking designers to re-imagine chandeliers for the last several years, this year, apparently they said, "hey guys, have at it, go nuts". The results are stunning.

Mona Monkey

Yo, so I went to the Grand Etang and I saw the best.monkey.ever! It was a Mona Monkey. It was way more awesome than the monkeys I saw last week on Saint Kitts. So, we went to the jungle and we took a banana. We put the banana on the ground near a tree and then we walked away. Later, we came back and saw that the banana was gone. A SIGN! Then I knelt down and an amazing little monkey walked out and greeted me. I called for Kristin and she snapped some flicks. I want a monkey for my own! Here are some photos of our monkey pal. theme song

Please Sir, Poison Me No Further
So here a few quick observations on life in Grenada. First of all, all of the public buses are actually privately owned vans driven by brave, heroic, reckless driving enthusiasts who barrel across curvy jungle roads at top speeds. And to enter one of these busses often I find myself at the main bus depot in "town", Grenada's largest town, St. George's, well, that is time when I really find myself thinking, "damn, this IS different, I am definitely in a different culture". As the way of hopping into the bus is a dramatic crowding of the door and piling in as quick as can be, you snooze you catch the next bus pal.
But in other news, I went out clubbing here in Grenada on friday night and it was a wild time. For starters, we went to a small local club in the village of Windsor Forest, where there were hardly any women. So some guy decided that winning us over was his project. He bought me several drinks, but after the first sip I noticed that this was most likely a glass of pure jet fuel or battery acid. Upon discussion with my hosts I found that this was a substance called Rivers Rum from a small distillery in the northern part of the island. I had to pull together a scheme composed mostly of tossing the liquor on the floor so I wouldn't seem too rude and also, so I wouldn't die. The fun didn't end there, we were lucky enough to keep on clubbing until the wee hours, at a club called Fantasia that was full of serious dancing. All in all, we had a great time but we thanked our lucky stars to be alive because the later it got, the more our friend who was driving us around felt that he was driving a plane that could lift off of the dark and treacherous roads and into the sky with just a little more speed. Phew! Thanks Grenada for showing a girl a good night out! some junk

We Have Not Yet Seen the Pinnacle of Chandelier Mania

Well, I hate to really divulge all my secrets but my roommate and I have been thinking for a long time that 2006 is the year of the chandelier. And this makes it official. Designsponge reports on this amazing textile by designer Debra Frances Bean.

As in THE Miami Sound Machine

I recently bought some new swimwear to deal with all this tropical activity and I just found out that this suit is called THE ESTEFAN. My life is perfect. the official website
Can I Just Say . . .
Nothing can really prepare you for the moment when you are trying to scope out a woman wearing a bikini with a weird tattoo trying to shower off her kid in a public beach prep shower thing and so you walk by. AND THEN you walk over a small bridge and sort of talk to a woman slinging Bob Marley tees that she has hung in a tree and then you try to edge away without seeming rude, just a little disinterested and you turn around and almost walk into a GIANT SLEEPING PIG bigger then a Vespa.
And people say we monkey around

Well, folks, its time to cross another lifelong goal off of the list. Yep, my first ever, monkey-in-the-wild sighting took place today. YIPPPEEEE! (Yesterday, I was staring into the Tamarind trees beyond our deck pining for a monkey viewing and I was able to see a little guy's tail scamper quickly away and I knew that with patience I would be able to eventually see a REAL MONKEY). Then, today, we went for a long drive in our complimentary Pathfinder (weird?) to a place called Turtle Beach and on the way we spotted a troupe of adorable monkeys scrambling around on the brush-laden hillsides!!! The monkey fun didn't stop, it multiplied, when luckily we happened onto a tropical bar/miracle/tourist trap that put out a bowl of sweet nectar, apparently a semi-tame wild monkeys fav food. The monkeys that inhabit St. Kitts and Nevis are called green velvet monkeys. They are a smaller monkey first introduced to the island as pets during the French colonial conquest. Sweeeet!
